Today@NCCapitol: ACC getaway day

March 14th, 2019

— Here’s what’s happening in the General Assembly on Thursday, March 14:

  • House and Senate budget committees continue meeting in joint sessions at 8:30 and 9 a.m.
  • The House convenes at 10 a.m. and is expected to give final approval to a proposed $1.9 billion school construction bond.
  • The Senate is expected to give final approval to a proposal that would allow small businesses to band together to provide their employees with lower-cost health insurance.
  • Rep. David Lewis, R-Harnett, is hosting an 11:30 a.m. news conference by craft brewers and distributors on the latest attempt to loosen North Carolina’s distribution laws.

The relatively light schedule allows lawmakers to hit the road early and possibly attend part of the ACC Tournament in Charlotte. Gov. Roy Cooper plans to be there all day.
