Today@NCCapitol: Hemp, gambling and booze

— Here’s what’s going on at the General Assembly on Thursday, July 11:

  • House Finance takes up the annual Farm Act and its hemp, hog farm and shooting range provisions and a measure to provide financial assistance to struggling rural hospitals. (8:30 a.m., 544 LOB)
  • House Health considers a state ban on female genital mutilation and changes in hospital assessments to support the shift to managed care in the Medicaid program. (9 a.m., 643 LOB)
  • The Senate has no scheduled votes during its 10 a.m. floor session.
  • The House convenes at 10:30 a.m. and is expected to debate allowing betting on college and professional sports and horse racing at casinos operated by the Eastern Band of the Cherokees, creating a state gaming commission and changes to state liquor laws. The override vote on the state budget veto and a Medicaid expansion proposal are also on the calendar.
